Nch’ḵay̓’s values are Squamish Nation values. One of these values is wanáxws, which means ‘to respect someone or treat someone with respect’ in our Sḵwx̱wú7mesh sníchim (Squamish language). It can also mean ‘to honour or believe in someone.’
How do we incorporate wanáxws at work?
Creating and upholding an inclusive and respectful work environment is a top priority for Nch’ḵay̓. While we’ve been working on a new cultural safety and awareness program in collaboration with our Squamish community and our Engagement & Culture Advisor, our approach is not typical of most diversity initiatives. The way work as an Indigenous organization is both internal and external – our priorities and decisions are guided by the multi-generational outcomes, and community inclusion is integral to our business. We’re working to ensure Sḵwx̱wú7mesh history, land, legends, and protocols in the areas of language, culture, and dance are woven into our workplace so that we deeply respect and honour our roots. We also strive to celebrate our uniqueness as business leaders operating as generational stewards. Ultimately, we each foster care toward one another and our work.
Join us on this journey to engage with wanáxws to the advancement of workplaces, communities, and society.
