Nch’ḵay̓, established in 2018, is the economic development arm of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation). Our Real Estate and Development Department is dedicated to delivering storied places and communities that celebrate Squamish values. The Director, Development and Construction will play a crucial role in achieving our objectives of creating long-term economic prosperity for the Nation and its people by leading new and exciting projects throughout Squamish Nation Territory.
Position Overview
The Director, Development and Construction is a Permanent Full-Time position based at Nch’ḵay̓’s Head Office in West Vancouver, BC. This role involves leading the execution of multiple real estate development and construction projects, providing timely and detailed reporting, and ensuring the financial viability of these projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead internal and external teams in delivering successful real estate development and construction projects.
- Implement workplace strategies aligned with our business, values, culture, and brand.
- Manage direct and indirect reports.
- Oversee successful land acquisitions, partnerships, and multi-use projects.
- Conduct or oversee due diligence for real estate transactions and construction feasibility.
- Interface with internal colleagues to assess real estate and construction needs.
- Drive executive project reviews, objectives, and approvals.
- Manage the development and construction team that prepares valuation analyses and construction schedules.
- Research and develop internal asset strategies on real estate and construction methodologies.
- Supervise the Real Estate and Construction business plan and strategic planning process.
- Oversee internal budgets and reports, including construction budgets and change orders.
- Negotiate lease and construction contract terms across various real estate channels.
- Prepare deal and construction progress presentations for senior management approval.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field such as Urban Land Economics, Urban Planning, Architecture, or Engineering. A Master’s degree is preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience leading land development projects with a proven track record of complex project execution.
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in leadership, including construction management leadership.
- Knowledge of financial real estate and construction terms and principles.
- Understanding of methods for valuing real estate assets and estimating construction costs.
