September 27, 2022, Vancouver B.C. – Nch’ḵay̓ Development Corporation today announced the appointment of Shayne Ramsay as Executive Vice President, Real Estate and Development.
Ramsay joins Nch’ḵay̓ after a distinguished career in the public sector, where he recently served as the long-time CEO for BC Housing. Prior to that, he was the first CEO of the Homeowner Protection Office, a crown corporation established to respond to the leaky condo crisis in British Columbia and the lead of development at BC Housing.
“I am excited to welcome Shayne to our executive team, where his deep experience, knowledge and understanding of the real estate sector will only serve to strengthen the experience of our executive team,” said Mindy Wight, CEO, Nch’ḵay̓ Development Corporation. “With a key part of our strategic focus on real estate and development, we will be better positioned to meet the challenges with Shayne on our team.”
Ramsay served as CEO for BC Housing for more than 22 years, during which BC Housing’s story of growth and innovation expanded beyond expectation with a record number of new units delivered. Additionally, his commitment to both Reconciliation and equity lead to the reshaping of BC Housing’s approach to service delivery, driving efforts to embed principles of Reconciliation and equity into all aspects of its work. This is reflected in BC Housing’s Reconciliation strategy Reconciliation: Moving Forward Together, a report highlighting key themes and actions and Ramsay also established the Office of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging.
Ramsay has a graduate degree in Urban Planning from the University of Toronto and an undergrad degree in Geography from the University of Waterloo.
“I am looking forward to working with the team at Nch’ḵay̓ and the Nation to find real solutions and opportunities to build wealth and economic prosperity for the Squamish Nation and its citizens through the real estate portfolio, with the added goal of building homes for its citizens and British Columbians,” Ramsay said. “I felt that I had contributed all I could to BC Housing but not to the community, I am energized at the opportunity to do this important work.”
