Nch’ḵay̓ is leading the redevelopment planning of Marine Drive – X̱wemelch’sten.
Marine Drive was identified through the Nation’s Land Development Strategies’ work as an area for future economic development. Developing Nation lands with market uses will generate significant own-source revenue, supporting the Nation’s funding and delivery of community priorities.
The Land Development Strategies work was conducted over 2023-2024 and included input from over 500 Squamish People.
In June 2024, Council approved a mix of land uses for Marine Drive including:
– mixed-use market residential uses
– a new Nation Administrative and Community Service Centre
– green spaces
– expanded Nation housing

International Plaza
In September 2025, Nch’ḵay̓ announced its historic acquisition of the International Plaza building. This acquisition ensures Squamish People benefit from development on Squamish lands.
International Plaza will be incorporated as part of the future community visioning of Marine Drive.
International Plaza continues to be operated by Nch’ḵay̓ as a long-term income generating asset to contribute to the wealth and prosperity of Squamish People.
Nch’ḵay̓ is actively investing in International Plaza with building repairs and improvements to support its existing tenancies – prioritizing the health, safety, and quality of life for all who call International Plaza home.
What’s Happening Now?
In 2026-2027, a collaborative planning process will be held with Squamish People, the Nation and Hiy̓ám̓ to create a plan for the future of Marine Drive.
Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Stelmexw (People) input will be critical to advancing this work.
Any future redevelopment will require the expressed support of Squamish People through a future land designation vote.
Marine Drive’s planning will continue to be Sḵwx̱wú7mesh-led. By leading our own redevelopment efforts, we safeguard our lands, maximizing their potential and benefits to Squamish People in ways that truly reflect Sḵwx̱wú7mesh values and aspirations.
