Nch’ḵaỷ Development Corporation (NDC) was established in 2018 as the economic development arm of the Squamish Nation – Skwxwú7mesh Úxwumixw. Nch’ḵaỷ’s mandate is to develop, manage, and own the active businesses of the Nation and was created to allow for the separation of business and politics within the Squamish Nation.

The Digital Communications Specialist is a Permanent Full-Time position based at Nch’ḵaỷ’s Head Office. Our Head Office is in West Vancouver, BC on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the Sḵw̱xwú7mesh (Squamish) Nation and its people.   • Salary range: $63,000 to $79,000

 

Scope of the Position

The Digital Communications Specialist will play a pivotal role in shaping and executing Nch’ḵay̓’s digital strategy. This role encompasses managing the organization’s online presence, creating engaging visual and written content, and driving brand awareness through effective digital communications. The successful candidate will use a range of digital tools to highlight and report on Nch’ḵay̓’s impact, increase community engagement, and promote our various areas of work across channels including social media, our website, and email newsletter.

 

A. Duties, Responsibilities, Authority, and Accountabilities

Social Media Management

  • Contribute to and implement a comprehensive social media strategy aligned with our overall marketing goals.
  • Create, curate, and schedule engaging content across multiple platforms (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X).
  • Monitor and engage with Nch’ḵay̓’s audience on social media, ensuring responses are timely and aligned with the organization’s voice and strategic objectives. 
  • Monitor and report on social media analytics and adjust strategies based on performance.

 

Graphic Design

  • Create graphic design products (e.g., presentations, templates, posters, social media graphics, pamphlets, etc.) for digital and print formats, ensuring all designs are aligned with the organization’s branding and visual identity guidelines.
  • Collaborate with designers on complex projects, such as Annual Reports and key marketing materials.
  • Provide guidance and support to internal teams to ensure brand compliance as required.

 

Photography and Videography

  • Capture high-quality photos and videos for various purposes, including social media, website content, and marketing materials.
  • Edit and produce visually appealing content tailored to a range of audiences and digital platforms.

 

Website Oversight

  • Manage and update website content to ensure accuracy, relevance, and visual appeal
  • Collaborate with designers and developers to implement changes and improvements.
  • Optimize the website’s performance by managing SEO, analyzing traffic, and improving the user experience.

 

Email Newsletter

  • Create and manage our email newsletter, including content development, design, and distribution.
  • Segment email lists and personalize content to target specific audiences.
  • Monitor and analyze email campaign performance and continuously improve newsletter content based on engagement data.

 

Digital Asset Management

  • Develop and maintain a system for organizing and cataloging Nch’ḵay̓’s library of digital content (i.e., photos, videos, graphics, etc.)
  • Ensure that digital assets are easily accessible, properly archived, and reflect usage/attribution requirements.

 

Digital Analytics

  • Track, analyze, and report on the performance of digital communications efforts using tools such as Hootsuite and Google Analytics.  
  • Provide regular insights and recommendations for improving future digital strategies based on data analysis.

 

B. Other

  • Stay informed about communications and branding trends and best practices to contribute to continuous improvement.
  • Work closely with the Communications & Engagement team and other departments to align messaging and ensure consistent brand representation.
  • Liaise with external vendors for specialized digital services when necessary.
  • Assist with in-person community engagement events and activities, as required.
  • Monitor and report on media coverage.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of a positive workplace culture.
  • Perform other duties as required.

C. Reporting Responsibilities and Authorities from Supervisor

  • Reports to Manager, Communications


D. Knowledge, Skills, and Experience **

  • Bachelor’s degree or college diploma in Marketing, Communications, Digital Arts, Media & Design, or a related field.
  • 2 years of directly applicable work experience.
  • Demonstrated experience using social media tools (Facebook, X, Instagram, LinkedIn) at an organizational level to drive growth and promote corporate brand, events, initiatives, and campaigns.
  • Demonstrated graphic design skills and experience using Canva and/or Adobe Creative Suite to create digital publications and graphics in accordance with brand guidelines. 
  • Experience using MailChimp or other email marketing platforms.
  • Strong photography and videography skills, with proficiency in editing software photography and videography skills, with proficiency in editing software.
  • Outstanding writing and editing skills, with a keen eye for detail.
  • Advanced social media management skills, including use of Hootsuite (or equivalent).
  • Experience working with WordPress-based websites is an asset.
  • Proven proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
  • Ability to organize and track overlapping tasks and assignments, with frequent priority changes to meet deadlines.
  • Strong people skills and the ability to build productive and respectful working relationships with colleagues, senior management, and external partners.
  • Highly self-motivated and self-directed; able to work both independently and in a team-based environment.
  • Able to maintain a high degree of confidentiality.
  • Experience working with First Nations is an asset; a strong desire to learn about and uphold Sḵwx̱wú7mesh values and teachings in a respectful manner is essential.

 

E. Special Requirements

  • Willing to sign Nch’ḵaỷ Confidentiality Agreement;
  • Willing to work paid overtime as required, which may include occasional weekends or evenings;
  • Willing to travel as required (i.e., other Nch’ḵaỷ office or business locations, events).
  • Class 5 Driver’s Licence is considered an asset.
