Salary range: $90,000 to $115,000

Nch’ḵaỷ Development Corporation (NDC) was established in 2018 as the economic development arm of the Squamish Nation – Skwxwú7mesh Úxwumixw. Nch’ḵaỷ’s mandate is to develop, manage, and own the active businesses of the Nation and was created to allow for the separation of business and politics within the Squamish Nation.

The Manager Learning and Development is a Permanent Full-Time position based at Nch’ḵaỷ’s Head Office. Our Head Office is in West Vancouver, BC on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the Sḵw̱xwú7mesh (Squamish) Nation and its people. Scope of the Position

The Manager, Learning & Development leads the planning, implementation of comprehensive training and development programs for Nch’ḵaỷ and its divisions aligned with Nch’ḵaỷ’s strategic and people goals, and consistent with Squamish Nation and organizational values.

The Manager collaborates effectively with senior leadership, the Human Resources team, and external partners driving individual and organizational capability and capacity development.

Acting as a key advisor and support to the organization’s leadership, the role focuses on corporate-wide competencies, development planning, program design and delivery, managing facilitators / vendors, directing the personal develop plans and mentorship programs, individual development guidance, and administering all Team Member learning records using a learning management system. This role will develop curricula in support of career pathing and be a key spokesperson and advocate for education.

Duties, Responsibilities, Authority, and Accountabilities 

Strategic Planning

  • Collaborate with leadership to identify and prioritize Team Member development initiatives aligned with Nch’ḵaỷ’s strategic plan,
  • Develop and execute people strategies that support organizational growth, effectiveness, and Team Member engagement.
  • Support change management and organizational development initiatives.  

 

Develop People Programs 

  • Design and implement people development programs that cultivate Nch’ḵaỷ team member capabilities, including leadership programs, coaching and mentorship approaches, personalized development plan guidance, broad-based learning foundational learning, and individual development planning.
  • Develop curriculum of company-specific programs alongside external programs and suppliers.

 

Organizational Assessment and Training

  • Conduct an annual and ongoing training-needs-analysis and an annual training-plan, and budget to address identified developmental needs.
  • Create capability profiles, career paths, and performance management strategies.
  • Contributes to talent and succession plans.
  • Design and facilitate team-building and customer service workshops for enhanced collaboration and experience.
  • Develop and deliver training programs tailored for both management and employees.
  • Assess the effectiveness of training in terms of employee growth, transferability, promotion, and overall performance.

 

Employee Engagement & Performance

  • Support the annual engagement survey, collaborating with the HR team such as focus groups and action planning. 
  • Contribute to the Performance Management process and provide system training to Leadership. 
  • Ensure career and personal development is incorporated into the processes

 

Other

  • Mentor HR team members to grow their capability in the learning function, supporting design and delivery with guidance.
  • Perform other duties as required.
  • Adheres to and promotes Nch’ḵaỷ’s six Guiding Principles (Leadership, Trust, Respect, Wisdom, Competence, and Passion).

 

Reporting Responsibilities and Authorities from Supervisor

  • Reports to Director, Human Resources.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree supporting training, development, organizational development, or related adult education,
  • Five (5) years of experience developing and delivering learning both in-person and online,
  • Experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS),
  • Proven experience people development practices, 
  • Project management, change management or coaching certification an asset, 
  • Experience working with First Nations is an asset,
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships at all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and implement initiatives successfully.
  • High levels of integrity and ability to handle confidential information,
  • Ability to work independently within established guidelines and procedures and as a member of a team,
  • Strong multi-tasking and organization skills,
  • Ability to set and manage priorities to meet deadlines,
  • Strong people skills and the ability to interact with colleagues and senior management,
  • Proficient in MS Office 365 software (Teams, PowerPoint, Excel, Word, and Outlook).

 

Special Requirements

  • Willing to work additional hours and off-site as required.

 

Working Conditions

  • Occasional travel to other locations.
